Auctions in Market

Sell an item through bidding — the highest bid wins.

In Market you can sell an item through an auction instead of a fixed price: buyers place bids and the highest one wins.

How to start an auction

  1. Open Market and create a listing.
  2. Under Selling format, choose Auction.
  3. Set the Starting price, Bid increment and Length — 1, 3 or 7 days.

While there are no bids you can change these fields — the timer then starts over. After the first bid the price, increment and duration are locked, and the listing can only be deleted once the auction ends.

Where to find auctions

In Market, next to All items, Bookmarks and My listings, there is an Auction tab — it shows only auction lots: those ending soonest first, finished ones at the end.

How to bid

The item page shows the current bid, the leader, the time left and the Bid history. Enter an amount and click Place bid.

  • The minimum bid is the current bid plus the increment (or the starting price if there are no bids yet).
  • You can't bid on your own item or outbid your own bid.
  • A bid placed in the last 2 minutes extends the auction by 2 minutes so others can respond.

Notifications

  • Someone outbid you — you get a notification.
  • The auction ended and your bid is the highest — you get a notification that you won.

After the auction

The item page shows Auction ended, the winner and the Final price. The seller sees Message winner, the winner sees Message seller. You agree on payment and handover in messages — no money goes through the site.
