A place on the map in chats
How to send a point on the map — a meeting spot, an address or your own location.
In a chat you can send a point on the map: where to meet, where to drive to, or where you are right now.
How to send a place
- Open a chat in Messages.
- Click + to the left of the message field and choose Map.
- The Send a place window opens with a map — already roughly where you are. Move the map so the red pin in the centre points at the right place. Zoom with the mouse wheel or the + and − buttons.
- Click Send.
Where the map opens
- In a browser the map shows your location if you have allowed the site to use it.
- Without that access (including in the Windows app) the map opens at the place you sent last time, and the first time — roughly in your city.
How to find a place quickly
- Search. Type a city, street or place name in the field at the top and click Find. Pick a line from the list — the map jumps there.
- My location. The button in the top left corner of the map shows where you are now. The browser will ask for permission to use your location.
The Windows app has no My location button — use search or find the place on the map by hand.
What the other person sees
A small map with a pin appears in the chat, along with an Open in map link that opens the place on a full-size map.
The same window opens from Location in the Service menu.
